Jane Tilley was born circa 1800 and was a sister to my direct ancestor Sarah "Sally" Tilley. They were daughters of Henry Tilley. Most of Henry's married children lived in Stokes Co NC in the Snow Creek community.


Jane and husband, William H Reeves, had a daughter, Pocahontas born in July of 1836. There is a William H Reeves, Jr. living nearby who may also have been their son. The following is an account of the family of Pocahontas Reeves.


Pocahontas married George Norton in 1852. George was living nearby in the household of her Priddy cousins in 1850. They had seven children together. They moved to Hart County KY with one of the Priddy families and soon thereafter George died.


In Grayson Co Ky, Pocahontas met and married James Witten, who had recently become a widower for the second time.

James was the son of the well known Witten family of Tazewell Co VA. His parents were John and Nancy Witten.


Both Pocahontas and James came from families with American Indian connections. In 1877 they had a son, Thurman.


By 1880, the records show James Witten with wife, Pocahontas, son Thurman and a mixture of their children from their previous marriages.

He was born Sep 1815 in KY, and died ABT 1900 in Grayson Co KY.
